Aldo Rossi was born in Milan in 1931. Rossi graduated from the School of Architecture at Politecnico in Milan in 1959. He contributor to Casabella, and from 1961 to 1964 was one of its editors. His publications include The Architecture of the City (1966), Urban Analysis and Architectural Design (1970), Selected Writings on Architecture and the City (1975), and A Scientific Autobiography (1980).

Rossi's early work is a response to the continuity of certain formal patterns in Italian Rationalism and the significance of history in architecture. His later work has been shaped by Mannerism and a determination to keep on inventing, showing evident signs of modernism and innovation.
